What are Automatic Thoughts?
Automatic thoughts are thoughts that arise spontaneously in our minds. They can be thoughts that are formed as part of our beliefs and values and are sometimes the obvious reaction to a situation, For example someone jumping a queue in front of you might cause you to feel angry. However some thoughts that we have are not always obvious as to their origin or relevant to the situation that we are experiencing at the time. These thoughts can be a bit more puzzling as to why we have them or why we might think that way about a particular subject.
This exercise is an interactive way for you to test how your automatic thoughts arise. It can be of tremendous help when learning more about how we think as individuals and why.
There is no right or wrong to this exercise, just be as honest as possible. All results remain completely anonymous.
For each answer below, please indicate, using a number relating to how often you experienced this thought during the course of the week on a scale of 0-5.
(0=never, 1= rare, 2= not much, 3= fairly often, 4= often, 5= A lot)
Thank you for completing the Automatic Thoughts exercise.
